Hey Harry, meet Sally!

What is a common social interaction that Facebook simply does not provide right now?

Its the simple act of introducing two people you know to each other.

Sure, FB lets you suggest friends for your friends. But its (kind of) implicit that they are mutual or common friends already and you are just helping them find each other.

I have almost no single friends (right now) but I think a matchmaking FB app which lets you set up blind dates for your friends would be cool!

Update – I know Linkedin provides introductions as well as recommendations. I think most professional introductions are probably more like personalized recommendations that are only visible to the three people involved. So it makes sense to combine the two (call it an intro-commend) where you recommend someone professionally to someone else. Also something that Angie’s List could look into!

Google wishlist #0

  • Gmail wishlist
  • Let me auto archive all emails older than a configurable date.
  • Only show me unread email. Auto archive read email. (Possibly a GTD thing, but oh! the peace!)
  • Automagically create email filters for subscription / mailing list type emails.
  • Search wishlist
  • Show me most current results first. Results from June 2011 are probably more relevant than results from April 2009.
  • Use my Google Reader subscriptions to return search results from blogs I already follow. Yes, I know that its very filter bubble-ish of me and I sure hope I don’t (further) develop my confirmation bias.
  • Within my (similar) results, show me the differences. For example, when I search for a current news item, I tend to read multiple versions of the same story (from different sources). They all have the basic stuff in common but its the differences (and contradictions) that make up the whole picture. “Big Picture Search”?
  • Google Reader wishlist
  • In the feed for my shared items, separate my comments from the item content. It all gets jumbled together right now (and makes no sense).

Iceland – Citizensourcing its constitution!

Iceland is using Facebook to citizensource its constitution! How cool is that! Yes, people (including moi) can waste enormous amounts of time on Facebook, but this is a great example of FB actually being used for something useful.

Which makes me think that FB should seriously consider expanding into the enterprise space – FB could very well be the new intranet! Imagine your news feed with updates from coworkers about what they are working on! Imagine that you could collaborate on a work document using FB! Think how easy it would be to get review comments on stuff or even to share links! Think how useful FB questions would be in a work environment!

The mind boggles at the possibilities!

Are you listening Outlook? Its me, Manaswini

Dear Outlook, it would be awesome if you could auto-suggest conference rooms when I am trying to setup a meeting! I pretty much use the same handful of conference rooms again and again so could you be a sweetie and remember them for me?

Oh, and when I right click a folder, could you please show me the email filters (rules) associated with it?

Updated – Well, sometimes wishes do come true! Check out the Room Finder feature in Outlook 2010 (via @OutlookInsider).
